Melvin C. Rogers, age 87, of Plainfield, passed away July 17, 2017. The son of Ira Messamore and Nellie Rogers Ping, he was born September 10, 1929 in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky.

He was a member of New Life Community Wesleyan Church of Mooresville and the UAW. A retired machinist, Melvin had worked Stewart-Warner for 18 years, Allison Transmission for 10 years and retired in 1992 from General Motors after 13 years of service. He enjoyed going to flea markets, coin collecting and playing card, dominoes and board games, especially Scrabble.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Susie E. Hall Rogers of Plainfield; sons, Jeffrey L. (Christina) Rogers of Monrovia and Charles A. (Karen) Rogers of Mooresville; daughters, Linda K. Blanchard of Monrovia and Shirley J. Wuest of Indianapolis; brother, James E. (Jane) Ping of Indianapolis and sister, Ina A. McCoy of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harlan Ping and sister, Ruby Chaney.

Services 11:00 a.m. July 21, 2017 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on July 20th. Burial at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
