Obituary

Meredith Earl "Ozzie" Osborne, Jr., age 87 of Greenwood, died on August 31, 2009 at Community Hospital South. Born January 14, 1922, he was the son of Meredith Earl Osborne, Sr. and Nettie Irene (Cooney) Osborne. On October 31, 1941 in North Augusta, S.C., he married Kathryn O''Rhea "Kay" Pettigrew who preceded him in death in January 1999. On September 9, 2000 in Indianapolis, he married Carol Cunningham. Meredith served in the U.S. Air Force beginning in 1940 serving during WW II and the Korean Conflict. He retired from the military in 1962 as a Tech Sergeant. Meredith then worked with Indianapolis Motor Fleet Service for 22 years in numerous airports servicing Air refueling stations. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias where he was Past Chancellor. Meredith also served on the Prince''s Lakes Town Council and Planning & Zoning Commissions. He was also active with the Midstate Amateur Radio Club, emergency management and was a scout leader for the Boy Scouts and Explorers. Survivors include his wife Carol; sons: Meredith Earl "Butch" (Bonnie) Osborne, Jon Marcus (Jean) Osborne, Walter Daryl (Suzan) Osborne and Jay Rodney Osborne; daughter Tamela (Steven) Sowers; Sisters: Maxine Chapple, Miriam Manter and Sharon Hines; Also survived by 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Kay and one brother Charles N. Osborne. A gathering will take place at the graveside at 2:00pm on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
