Mertle Marie Hampton, age 80, of Indianapolis, passed away March 4, 2017. The daughter of John and Lonus M. Richards Holt, Mertle was born June 10, 1936, in Russell Springs, Kentucky.

For several years, she worked on the assembly line at Woods Wire Products and later was a cook for the Sunshine Inn. Mertle enjoyed doing puzzle books, cooking, reading and gardening.

Mertle is survived by children: Linda Coffey of Indianapolis, Robert (Mary) Coffey of Bargersville, David (Janie) Coffey of Greenwood, Randy (Brenda) Coffey of Greenwood and Richard (Barbara) Coffey of Mooresville; brother, Jerry (Brenda) Holt of Russell Springs, Kentucky; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mertle was preceded in death by brothers, Eugene, Keith and Jack Holt.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. March 8, 2017 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, where friends may call 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. March 7th at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Greenwood.
