Obituary

Michael W. Whitaker 62, of Greenwood, IN passed away February 11, 2020. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Laura Whitaker; daughter Rebecca (Darren) Manning; son Brian (Devin Toohey) Whitaker; grandsons Jackson Manning and Liam Manning; father Kenneth Whitaker; sisters Nancy Lane and Marcia Wilson; close family friend Catherine Bodenreider, and many nieces and nephews. Michael was preceded in death by his mother Virginia Lawson and sister Debbie White.

Michael was devoted to his family and shared many of his varied interests with us all. His nieces and nephews, and two grandsons will recall his jokes and the magic tricks he would amaze us with. A quarter was easily found behind an ear when needed. He was also an avid Colts fan. Laura and Michael would watch the games together at their home and regularly made their Victory Chili. He shared his interests in sports with his daughter, Becky, supporting her at many soccer games. Beginning during his childhood when he stayed home from school to watch the Apollo flight, he became a life-long space fanatic. He closely followed NASA, regularly watched the NASA channel, getting excited about seeing the International Space Station fly over, and reading about trips to Mars. Michael shared his interest in space with his son, Brian and regularly watched Star Trek with his entire family.

Michael left a lasting impact on his many friends and family members. We are all grateful to have had him in our lives.
