Greenwood:
Mildred Jean Heitz, 86, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Greenwood Village South Pavilion. Mildred was born on May 13, 1925 in Kokomo, IN to the late Fred and Cynthia (Pell) Hood. Mildred is a 1943 graduate of Van Buren High School in Carbon, IN. She married Harold A. Heitz, the love of her life, on September 20, 1944.
Mildred was the oldest of ten children. Mildred was a tremendously loving wife, mother, and friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed. She was also known as one who cared deeply for her fellow residents at The Village. Mildred loved to sew, cook, and tend to inside and outside plants. She was active in Bible study and was an Elder at Greenwood Presbyterian Church.
Mildred is survived by her 5 loving children: Rex Heitz (Sharon); Mark Heitz (Dawn); Victor Heitz; Sandra Gunter (Chet); and Deborah Ohnsorg (Bill); 4 brothers: Kenny, Tom, Bob, and Dick Hood; 2 sisters: Delores Mercer and Becky Crowe; 6 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harold of 66 years; brother Don Hood; and sister Norma Fay.
Visitation will be on Monday, August 1, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Rd. 135, Greenwood with the funeral service immediately following. Burial will take place in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Greenwood Presbyterian Church and/or the Alzheimer''s Association.
