Mrs. Mildred Suzanne 'Sue' Matthews, Indianapolis, passed away on the early morning of Wednesday, September 14, 2022. She was 76. Sue was born October 8, 1945 in Marion County, Indiana, a daughter of the late Fred and Norma Hanshew.
Sue attended Mooresville High School and was a member of the graduating Class of 1963. She was a devoted homemaker and dedicated her life to caring for her family.
Sue loved the outdoors and could usually be found working in her yard and raising her flowers. She spent her leisure time looking after her dogs, crocheting and working jigsaw puzzles. Sue was a people person and dearly loved her neighbors, whom she had frequent conversations. If they needed something, Sue was always there with a helping hand. She also enjoyed reading and watching the Indianapolis Colts with her husband.
Sue was a hostess at heart and looked forward to holiday parties with family and friends. She could always be counted on to have her home decorated for the holiday and to prepare those delicious meals she was known for.
She was a member of Southport Heights Christian Church.
Sue is survived by her loving husband, Russell D. Matthews; her daughter, Faye Matthewes and her special friends, Frances Sherman, Carol and Roger Inabnitt, Ricky Guffey, Chris Brutcher and John Peoni. Sue deeply loved her family and friends.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in passing by her brother, Fred Hanshew, Jr.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, with entombment following at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends form 11:00 am until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
For those choosing to make a memorial contribution, the family has suggested those be offered to either the Alzheimer's Foundation or the Humane Society.
