Mrs. Minnie Ellen Long, Franklin, passed away on the late evening of Friday, May 28, 2021. She was 89. Ellen was born September 18, 1931 in Lizton, Indiana, a daughter of the late Cecil and Bessie (Brown) English.

Ellen attended Pittsboro High School and was a member of the graduating Class of 1949. She had been employed in the accounting department at Canteen Services of Indiana for over 20 years before retiring in 1992. She was a member of the Franklin Christian Church as well as the Moose Lodge Women's Auxiliary in Greenwood.

Ellen had lived in both Venice and Punta Gorda, Florida from 1993 until 2006 before moving back to the Greenwood area. In her leisure time, she enjoyed sewing, raising and caring for her flowers and entertaining. She cherished the moments she could spend with her friends. She had also served as the volunteer treasurer for the Whispering Ponds Home Owners Association in Franklin and had also volunteered with her husband at the hospital in Venice.

Ellen is survived by her husband of over 72 years, Merrill Long; and her children, Karen (Robert) Intress and Gary (Sherry) Long and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in passing by her brothers, Lester English, Leonard English and Herman English and a nephew, James English.

A Celebration of Life for Ellen will be conducted at 12:00 pm, Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood. Inurnment will take place in the Benjamin Franklin Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home.
