In Loving Memory of Monetta Griffith Saylor, 88
September 17, 1937 – March 5, 2026
With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for the life she lived, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Monetta, who left this world peacefully on March 5, 2026, following a long and courageous battle of Dementia. Monetta, a former resident of Indianapolis, passed on a beautiful, sunny day in Charleston, SC. Monetta was born in Leatherwood, KY to Earl Griffith and Effie Halcomb Griffith. After graduating from Leatherwood High School, Monetta moved to Indianapolis, IN, where she met her soul mate and handsome husband Willard (Buck) Saylor. They wed on September 30, 1962, in Indianapolis, IN where they raised their three children and shared 60 years of marriage.
Born the proud daughter of a coal miner, Monetta was a woman of extraordinary charm, warmth, and quiet strength. She grew up with grit, humility, and resilience that defined her every step. She devoted her life to her family, nurturing each of us with unwavering love, patience, and wisdom. Her laughter could brighten the darkest days, and her kindness touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. Beyond her role as a devoted mother and homemaker, Monetta was a loyal friend, neighbor, and source of encouragement to all. She built a life rooted in kindness, faith, and family.
Monetta leaves behind an untouchable legacy of love, generosity and many friends and family who will miss her deeply, including her daughter, Rebecca Sue Boor (Tony), her sons JR Willard Saylor (Yasmin), and Jimmy Dale Saylor (Lori); five grandchildren Joshua Johnson (Alexis), Alexandra Boor (Spencer), Kirstin Saylor, Paige Saylor, Jacob Saylor; two step grandchildren Anna and Nicholas Ryan; nieces who were amazing caregivers Sheila and Lisa, and Sharon; nephews Jeff and Michael; as well as numerous cousins. They all brought her great joy. She was preceded in death by her husband Willard Saylor; her parents, Earl and Effie Griffith; parent-in laws Grant Saylor and Laura Helton Key; her siblings Grayfus Griffith, Nerva Dean Sizemore, Margaret Griffith, and Bernice Collingsworth.
A celebration of her life will be held at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood, IN on Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Online condolences may be shared with the family at Forestlawncemetery-fh.com/obits. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Though she has left our sight, her spirit will forever guide us, like the steady glow of a miner's lamp in the dark, leading us home.
