Nancy Lou Burns, age 88, of Indianapolis, passed away at home Friday, January 24, 2025, following an illness.

Nancy was the eldest daughter of Otis and Winifred Wilson, both of whom  preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James H. "Jim" Burns.

Nancy graduated from Ben Davis High School and began her career working at L.S. Ayres. She later held secretarial positions with Indiana Insurance and Eli Lilly before dedicating herself to raising her family as a homemaker.

Nancy had a huge heart and giving nature. She was known for her kind, nurturing character. Nancy had a love of music and, in her earlier years, dancing as well. She would proudly tell the story of  purchasing her own piano, with savings from her first paychecks. Nancy enjoyed playing the piano, listening to music, shopping, and most of all, spending cherished times with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Nancy was an eternally selfless woman.

Nancy is survived by her four children: Lynette Burns Bickers (Ed), Denise Burns Winbigler (Joe), Becky Burns Watters, David Burns; her grandchildren: Cara Lowery (Matt), Jeremy Winbigler (Cristina), Jessica Winbigler, Cheyenne Schumake; her great-grandchildren: Gavin, Tristan, Ashton, Angel, Joel, Cecilia; and her sister, Deanna Henson.

Visitation for Nancy will take place Sunday, February 2, 2025 at 1:00 PM until the time of service at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens & Funeral Home, 1977 S State Rd 135, Greenwood, IN 46143. Funeral services will begin at 4:00 PM at the funeral home. Nancy will be laid to rest next to her husband James at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens on Monday, February 3 at 11:00 AM.

Nancy's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace.
