Nila Jo (Joey) Hawley, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away October 25, 2017. She was born December 25, 1930 to the late Price Hawkins Sr. and Vera Kirkhof Hawkins. Nila graduated from Manual High School and Purdue University College of Pharmacy, following in her father's career as a pharmacist. Her brother, Price "Tug" Hawkins soon joined the family pharmacy on Indianapolis's south side. Nila was beloved by her family, friends, pharmacy family, and by everyone who was blessed to know her. She was bright and witty, had a delightful sense of humor and talent for storytelling, was a genuinely caring person and a loving wife, mother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Nila was married to her college sweetheart Erwin "Skip" Hawley for 59 years until his death in 2011. Nila and Skip were members of Pleasant Run United Church of Christ in Indianapolis and Faith Presbyterian Church in Cape Coral, Florida. Nila was preceded in death by her husband Skip Hawley; brother Tug Hawkins. She is survived by her sons Dr. Dennis Hawley of Napa, California; Dr. Dean (Clarisse) Hawley of Indianapolis; grandchildren Lauren (Jesse) Peters; Kristen (Brett) Crowe; Eric (Alaina) Hawley; Scott (Kate) Hawley; great-grandchildren Maxwell and Finley Crowe.

Nila's family would like to thank the staffs of Sunrise on Old Meridian and Great Lakes Caring Hospice for their loving and compassionate care of Nila during her four years as a resident.

A celebration of Nila's life will be held for family and friends at a later date.

Memorial contributions in Nila's name may be made to a favorite charity.
