Nina Viola (Anderson) Hessman, 86, a fifty five year resident of Whiteland and New Whiteland passed away on SaturdayNovember9th,2013 at St. Francis Hospital.

She was born Monday March 7, 1927 in Pueblo, Kentucky and the ninth child of General Jackson Anderson and Elsie (Koger) Anderson which both have passed. She had two brothers, Hobart and Edison Anderson of Kentucky; six sisters, Zelma Gregory, Susie Thomson, Christine Burr, Lucille Perkins, all of Indianapolis, Gendola Gossage of Muncie, and Ethel Roberts of Kentucky, all have previously passed. She was the loving wife of 56 years to John Hessman of Whiteland who passed on June 13, 2013 and they are survived by their two children Wanetta Pfahler of Greenwood and Ron Hessman of Grand Rapids Michigan.

Her father and mother in-law Harry and Martha (HoHeisel) Hessman, and five brother-in-laws Leo of North Carolina, Albert, Frank, Henry, Charley all of Indiana, have all previously passed. Her step-father in-law John Corcoran and step-brother in-law Priest Thomas Corcoran of Indiana has also previously passed. She is survived by one sister in-law Rose Mary Miller of Indianapolis. She is survived by many nephews and nieces including Phyllis Seaman of Greenwood, Imogene Grosheim of Cincinnati, Ella Martin of Marion, Bob Gossage of Anderson, Vicky Gossage of Florida, Albert Hessman of Greenwood, Joan Owen and Patty Smith of New Whiteland, James Hessman of Houston Texas; Chris Hessman, Regina Jeffers, Dede Miller, Vicki Miller, Angela Lewis and Mark Miller of Indianapolis, Charles Lee Hessman of Bloomington, One cousin Grover Stambaugh of Whiteland previously passed.

She grew up on a farm near Monticello Kentucky. Her father was a farmer and the constable (sheriff) of the county. After he was killed in the line of duty in 1936 (he is listed on National Law Enforcement Memorial, and he was the Great, Great, Great, Great, Grandson of Chief Chuqualatague "Doublehead" of Cherokee Sycamore Shoals Cumberland Plateau), she received a greater workload on the farm and later became the care giver for her mother and grandmother.

After the passing of her grandmother the family relocated from Kentucky to Indianapolis in the 1950's and she worked at Standard Brands where she would later meet her future husband. They relocated from Indianapolis to the New Whiteland area in 1958 and lived there till their passing. She worked for various companies including a gift shop at Southern Plaza and John Myers cleaning service.

She was a founding member of New Whiteland First Southern Baptist Church. She enjoyed home gardening and growing flowers. Many enjoyed her home cooking and southern hospitality.

Viewing will be at Forest Lawn from 11 AM to 1 PM on Saturday November 16, services will follow after the viewing at 1PM and be conduct by retired Pastor Tommy Taylor, of Virginia Beach Virginia.
