Nora E. Owens, Greenwood, IN, passed away on Thursday, July 27 2023. She was 89 years old. Nora was born in Pall Mall, TN to her parents Robert and Annie York. She graduated from York Institute, class of 1950. Nora married her husband, Jerry Owens, on December 23, 1952 and they shared 56 years of marriage together until Jerry Passed away in March of 2009.
Nora worked as a meat packer for Rath where she contributed 30 years of service. Nora went on to work at Kroger in the Deli and Bakery for 10 years until ultimately retiring in 1995. Nora was a member of Indian Creek Christian Church for many years. Nora enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. She was a sports fanatic and enjoyed watching a variety of sports from winter Olympic curling to NASCAR races. The Games Show network was a staple of her household along with ESPN. In her free time, Nora enjoyed gardening and caring for her beloved flowers. Nora's persistent and strong willed nature will be dearly missed by those she leaves behind.
Nora is survived by her children Cherrie (Gary) Agan, Jeff (Sheryl) Owens and Judy (Scott) Veerkamp; her grandchildren, Amber (Corey) Agan, Jake Owens, Zack (Kaci) Owens, Kali Owens, Devon Veerkamp, Hannah (Austin) Law and Matthew Veerkamp,; her great grandchildren, Jaylah and Sage; her siblings, Mary, Cletis, Gale and Roger; her 29 nieces and nephews.
Nora is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jerry Owens; her siblings, Lea, James, Gene and Willie.
A visitation for Nora will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at 2:00 pm. Burial will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens at 3:00 pm.
