Norma F. Bemis, 89, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2011. Norma was born on February 9, 1922 in Jasonville, IN to the late Ernest E. and Minnie (Thompson) Woodruff. Norma was a graduate of Midland High School, Midland, IN. She married her love Ralph V. Bemis on October 16, 1941 in Linton.
Norma was a claims processor for Blue Cross/Blue Shield for 8 years, retiring in 1987. Prior, Norma worked for Diamond Chain for 9 years in their cafeteria and Hygrade for 16 years as a food processor. She was a very active member of Smith Valley Baptist Church where she assisted with assorted fundraising. She was also very active with Oasis Ladies Only Swimming Group. Norma enjoyed sewing and quilting.
Norma is survived by her loving children: Mark Bemis and Marilyn Saunders; 4 grandchildren: Jeffrey Saunders (Carol), Kathy Upchurch, Mark Bemis, Jr. (Sarah), and Andrea Lockhart (Steven); 7 great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Saunders, Catherine Saunders, Alexander Saunders, Shelby Upchurch, Lauren Bemis, Isaac Bemis, and Ryan Bemis; and sister Mildred Howes.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 53 years, Ralph Bemis; 4 brothers; and 3 sisters.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Rd. 135, Greenwood, as well as on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
