Obituary

Paul Gene Christie 93, died on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at home with his wife by his side. Paul was born August 1, 1932, in Indianapolis, Indiana, he is the son of Ewell Christie and Elva (Proctor) Christie.

Paul graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1951. Following graduation, Paul served in the United States Army during the Korean War. His active service date was December 1, 1952, and his rank was PVT-E1. He is proud to say he was on the front line when the truce was signed. On April 1, 1953, he was released from active military service and transferred to Army Reserve to complete 8 years of service under Universal Military Training and Service Act PVT E-2(P). He received an Honorable Discharge from the Army on November 1, 1960, with the rank of SGT.

He received the following recognitions: Combat Infantry Badge—Koren Service Medal W/1 Bronze Service Star—United Nations Service Medal—National Defense Service Medal—ROK Presidential Unit Citation— Good Conduct Medal.

Paul worked at Maplehurst Dairy along with other family members before going to work at C.A. Roberts. He saw the company go through several mergers and eventually retired on September 30, 1997, after 41 years of service.

As a youngster, Paul enjoyed spending summers at his grandparents' farm and the many neighborhood gatherings that took place in their side yard. Having three brothers and a sister meant there was always something brewing. As he got older, playing golf and building things became his favorite pastime.

Paul loved being involved with his children's sports activities. He never missed a practice or game and often helped coach. In his later years he had the privilege of watching his grandchildren follow their passions including show choir, basketball, football, soccer, robotics, dance and cheerleading. They kept their Papaw young and active.

Paul is survived by his loving wife, Debra (Becker) Christie; son, Chad (Mollie) Christie; daughter, Amanda (Jasup) Smith; brothers, Edgar (Leroy) and Jerry Christie; and 6 grandchildren, Alexis, Rylan, Grady, Brenna, Leighton and Decker. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ewell and Elva (Proctor) Christie; and siblings Richard Christie and Gaidene (Christie) Morgan.

Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6-8. The funeral will be Friday morning with visitation at 10:30, service at 11:30 and burial at 12:30. Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S SR 135, Greenwood, IN 46143.
