Paul Hutchinson, 78, of Martinsville, Indiana was born in Logan, West Virginia to the late Paul and Vella Hutchinson. He was a machinist by trade for Hittle Tool and Machine Co as well as a lifelong musician by heart. At the age of 5, Paul was introduced to the saxophone and it quickly became his passion which grew stronger as the years went by. Following high school, he attended Marshall University where he studied medicine. During this time, he auditioned for Bobby Darin and left college to pursue music across the United States and Canada. Paul was in numerous bands throughout his life including the Five Checks, the Crackerjacks, Sass-A-Brass, and more recently, Sweetwater. Especially proud moments in his career were playing alongside Jerry Lee Lewis and Bobby Darin. Throughout his career in music, he had inspired and awed many with his ability to play not only the saxophone but also piano. His vocals were incredible and soothing to many and after years of requests, he produced Saxy Moods to allow others to hear him during the few moments in his life he was not playing live. Paul was inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame and was recently honored by the Musicians of Indianapolis with a lifetime musician award in recognition of 60 years of performance.

Paul was an incredibly talented and natural musician but also was an amazing family man. He spent much of his life entertaining family and finding reason to invite everyone over for pizza. He was the first in line for every celebration, game, and concert for his children and grandchildren. He had tried to encourage each of his grandchildren to play saxophone as well and provided lessons but none of us were nearly as talented as he was. Paul was dedicated to caring for others and always brought a smile to everyone's face. His jokes were the silliest but he could still make every person he met laugh. One of his favorite lines when asked what he was looking for was "more money and less hours" but his constant searching for more hobbies and business ventures kept him busy. He enjoyed seeking out new adventures including piloting, collecting, and purchasing businesses such as Tropical Sno and Oldies and Goodies. He had an incredible love for watching old westerns, road trips, Long's donuts, and motorcycles. Seeing a Honda Goldwing, his face immediately lit up and he would begin to tell you about every motorcycle he'd ever owned.

One of his favorite conversation topics was how recently someone had their oil changed. As an avid lover and consumer of many various cars throughout his life, he always was invested in ensuring everyone, especially his granddaughter Kayla, was keeping up-to-date on car maintenance. In his later life he became an avid collector of rocks, lemon seeds, and toothpicks. Though he never cared much for dogs during most of his life, he eventually adopted Kobe and Iggie which he quickly fell head over heels for.

There was no greater man than Paul. He was incredibly loving, caring, and compassionate. He always put others before himself. He was an amazing friend to those who knew him and he would be there for anywhere no matter what the cost. The world lost the most fantastic person, but he will forever be apart of every life he touched.

He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife Joyce; twin daughters, Kimberly Reynolds and Kelly Chandler; two energetic fur babies, Kobe and Iggie; grandchildren, Daniel Reynolds, Kayla Chandler, Johnathon Chandler, Aaron Chandler, Alyssa Chandler, and Michael Chandler; Great granddaughter, Nicole Reynolds; three step-children; eight step-grandchildren; twelve step-great grandchildren; brother Donald Hutchinson; sister-in-law Donna Walgamott; nephews Cary and Terry Ramey. He was preceded in death by his amazing wife, Darlene Hutchinson.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 15 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens Funeral Home Greenwood, IN. Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 16 at 11:00 AM. Burial will be held at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Condolences may be left at forestlawncemetery-fh.com.
