Phillip L. Cress, 78, of Indianapolis, passed away December 24, 2015. The son of Charles O. and Lila Schneider Cress, Phillip was born July 11, 1937 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

In 1998, he retired as a Merit Sergeant from the Marion County Sheriff''s Department. He remained on the force as a Retiree Liaison retiring in 2013 with over 50 years of service. Phillip was a member of the NRA and the Fraternal Order of Police.

He is survived by daughter, Tina Cress; sons, Tony (Anita) Carver, Terry (Becky) Cress, Don (Katrina) Cress and Larry (Gayle) Cress; brother, Dennis (Helen) Cress; grandchildren, Zachary, Jacob and Caleb Carver; Spencer, Alexandra, Summer, Lawrence II and Sydney Cress and Hanna Hugus. In addition to his parents, Phillip was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Berting Cress and brothers, David and Charles R. Cress.

Funeral services 11:00 a.m. December 30, 2015 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. December 29, 2015 at the funeral home. Entombment at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
