Phillip Ray Doan, 83, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away peacefully on March 2, 2021.  He was the fifth of ten children, born as a twin on January 23, 1938 to Herman Quincy Doan Sr. and Lena Mae (Terrell) Doan.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, June (Christy) Doan, whom he loved dearly; sisters, Phyllis Haynes (his twin), Alice McKinney, and infant Donna Doan; brothers Melvin Doan Sr., Richard Doan, and infants, Donald and James; in-laws, Barbara and Harry Johnson, James McKinney, Marvin Haynes, Ronnie Christy, Betty Doan, Joan Doan, and Gus Christy; and a couple nieces.

He is survived by his brothers, Herman Doan, Jr., and Charles (Betty) Doan; in-laws, Robert Christy, Edward (Karen) Christy, Dirrell and Carol Cummins, 41 nieces and nephews between the Doan and Christy families and many, many cousins.  He loved them all.  Phillip and June were not able to have children of their own, but with all the nieces and nephews, their lives were filled.

Phillip graduated from Harry E Wood High School in 1955.  He joined the Army in 1955 with an Honorable Discharge in 1957.  He then joined the Army National Guard from 1957 - 1961 then the Indiana Army Reserve from 1961 - 1963.  Phillip loved serving in the military for his county.  He worked for Henry Smithers Roofing as a roofer from 1957 - 1958; Kocolene Service Station doing customer service and maintenance from 1958 - 1959; Worth Service Supply Company as forklift driver, warehouse, maintenance and CDL inner city and long haul semi driver from 1959 until retiring in 1998.  His CB handle was Frankenstein Monster.  He was also a member of the American Legion - Wayne Post 64; Indianapolis Motor Speedway (yellow shirt) Safety Personnel and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Military Honor Guard.

Phillip loved his family and friends and loved spending time with them whenever he could.  He loved fishing, his country, sightseeing, he and June had matching motorcycles they used to ride.  He was a jokester and always had a big smile on his face.  I know he will be missed by all, but he is pain free and happier now with God and his loved ones.  We will see him again.  R.I.H. Family will receive friends Tuesday, March 9 from 11:00am - 1:00pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, IN  46143, with funeral service to follow at 1:00pm and Military Honors at the graveside at 2:00pm.
