Mr. Phillip Hugh "Papaw" Wiley, Indianapolis, passed away on July 1, 2024. He was 69. Phil was born July 21, 1954, in Indianapolis, Indiana a son of the late Hugh R. and Jacqueline W. Wiley.
Phil graduated from Emmerich Manual High School, a member of the Class of 1972. He previously had worked at John Sexton & Company until their closure in 1997 as well as Maplehurst Bakery and SMC. Phil was a long-time member of University Heights Methodist Church and currently a member at Southwood Baptist Church in Beech Grove.
Phil found great joy in watching sports, particularly the Colts and Pacers. He was always there to support and cheer on his granddaughters at their sporting events and he took great pride in keeping track of stats and brackets. Beyond sports, Phil cherished spending time with his great-grandchildren, reading, cooking and trying out new restaurants.
Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Rita A. Wiley; his children, Melissa Wiley (Terry), Todd Wiley (Chris) and step-daughter, Victoria Oliver (Masumi); his grandkids, Tierra Riddle (TJ), Brook Haynes, Krista Haynes (Kyle) and Patrick and Jacob Kreiger; great-grandkids Carson and Amelia; siblings, Pam Gonder (Tom), Lizabeth Bowman (Randy), Jacqueline Sue Inman, Frederick Wiley (Jan) and Edmund Wiley (Tracey).
Phil is preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Melinda Ann Wiley; parents, Hugh and Jacqueline Wiley; a sister, Melinda Wilson and a brother, David Wiley.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, with Rev. Rick Porter officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
For those choosing to make a memorial contribution, the family has suggested those be offered to the American Diabetes Assiciation.
