Phyllis Harrington Pearson, 87, of Indianapolis, passed away May 28, 2013. The daughter of Robert E. and Gladys Downing Harrington, Phyllis was born September 12, 1925 in South Bend, Indiana.
She received her Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science from Butler University. Retiring in 1987 after 35 years of service, Phyllis taught at Decatur and Hamilton County Schools, taught and was a counselor at Southport High School. She did rehab teaching at Goodwill Industries where she composed a handbook of job seeking skills. She also taught at Indianapolis Public School # 65. She was a member of Southport United Methodist Church, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and the Indiana State Teachers Association.
Services are at 10:00 a.m. June 1, 2013 in Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, where friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. May 31, 2013. Entombment at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Phyllis is survived by son, Joseph (Margaret) Pearson; grandchildren, Heidi (Terence) Shackleford, Erich and Alex Pearson; great-granddaughters, Nevaeh and Stella Shackleford; brother/sister-in-law, Roy and Martha Pearson; niece, Ann Emery and nephew, Ted Pearson. Besides her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse.
