IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ralph "Chip"
William Hurkmans
September 2, 1946 – March 10, 2026
Ralph William "Chip" Hurkmans, Indianapolis, IN, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. He was 79 years old. Chip was born in Chicago, IL to his parents Frank and Harriet Hurkmans. Chip worked as a travelling salesman and during his career he found himself in the small town of Franklin, IN. During his time in the town, he stopped in at a local market and met a young woman with whom he swore he would only take on one date. That young woman turned into his beloved wife of 40 dedicated years, Johnda (Chinn) Hurkmans. He promised his wife one thing when they got married; Life would never be boring and he kept his promise.
Chip suffered a back injury as a young man and the doctor's prognosis was that he would never walk again. However, a testament to his persistent spirit, Chip pushed himself to be able to walk again with minor assistance. Chip was a member of the Indy RC South club for many years. He loved to fly remote control airplanes and consistently kept a social life with other members of the club. He had a collection of RC planes that he enjoyed caring for and building. Chip was also a talented woodworker; he loved to make anything from tables to kitchen utensils. Another one of Chip's favorite passtimes was playing with his beloved corgi, Peanut. Chip loved to spend time with his friends and family. He will be remembered for his outgoing nature and sharp sense of humor. Above all, Chip will be forever cherished as a loving husband and a remarkable friend.
Chip is survived by his wife, Johnda Hurkmans; his brother from another mother, Michael.
Chip is preceded in death by his parents.
