Richard McKinley Rickels, 75, of Greenwood, passed away June 5, 2012. The son of Lester J. Rickels and Dorothy (Bastian) Basey, Richard was born September 2, 1936 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
He earned an Associate Degree from Purdue University. After 29 years, Richard retired from Navistar, where he worked as a machine repairman.
Funeral services 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 8, 2012 in Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood with Pastor Sam Harrington officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood. Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. to service time on Friday.
Richard is survived by his wife, Mary G. (Alvey) Rickels of Greenwood; daughter, Robin Newkirk of Kokomo; stepsons, Mark Pitzer of Greenwood and Patrick (Therese) Pitzer of Beech Grove; grandson, Michael Newkirk of Kokomo; step-grandchildren, Rachel and Rebecca Pitzer of Greenwood and Johnny Pitzer of Beech Grove and lots of cousins and fishing buddies. Besides his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris J. Rickels and a brother, Bob Rickels.
