Richard Allen VanVlymen, 69, of Greenwood, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013. The son of Marvin A. and Frances Baker VanVlymen, Richard was born Thursday, October 28, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois.
Richard served our country in the U.S. Navy, earning the Vietnam Service (with Bronze Star) and National Defense Medals. Richard was President / Owner of Van's Electrical Systems in Indianapolis for 41 years, retiring in 2011. He was a member of The Community Church of Greenwood.
Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013 in The Community Church of Greenwood - 1477 West Main Street, Greenwood, where friends may call after 9:00 a.m. Additional visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2013 in Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood. Burial with military honors will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
Richard is survived by his wife, Barbara J. Brown VanVlymen of Greenwood, whom he married on Saturday, July 22, 1967; sons, Jeffrey A. (Melinda) VanVlymen of Indianapolis and Eric J. (Sharon) VanVlymen of Dayton, Ohio; brothers, Marvin, Wayne, Joseph, Stephen and Andrew VanVlymen; sisters, Beth Parsetich, Sharon Bond and Marion Jones; seven grandchildren, Nicholas, Abigail, Thomas, Jacob, Nathan, Hope and Ethan.
