Richard W. Pittman, 80, of Indianapolis, passed away Friday, October 4, 2013. The son of Joseph and Lottie Vaught Pittman, Richard was born September 13, 1933 in Indianapolis.
He retired as a machinist from Detroit Diesel Allison Division of General Motors. Richard loved to work on old cars, which included his 1955 Chevy. A carpenter, he would build furniture, added a room to his home and a garage. Richard was an avid supporter of Indiana University basketball and NASCAR where his favorite driver was Mark Martin.
Survivors include his wife, Delores A. Graves Pittman of Indianapolis; son Rickey (Tina) Pittman of Indianapolis; daughter, Sandra Pittman of Indianapolis; brother, John (Joanne) Pittman of Franklin and two grandchildren, Wesley and Clayton Pittman. Besides his parents, Richard was preceded in death by brothers, George, Stylen and James Pittman and sisters, Barbara Paul, Betty Paul and Pat Miller.
Funeral services 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 8, 2013 in Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, where friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to the time of service. Burial with military honors will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
