Obituary

Richard E. Winkle, 90, of Indianapolis passed away Thursday, January 9, 2020 surrounded by his family in his home.  He was born in November 26, 1929 in Goshen, Indiana to Forest and Geneva Winkle.

In 1951, Richard joined the Army saw action in Korea as a mortar specialist.  He was honorably discharged March 28, 1953.  When he returned to the states, he married the love of his life Thelma Grace on November 16, 1953. He went to work for Banquet Milk as a milkman for more than 25 years and continued delivering milk and other products as an independent milkman for years after that.  Richard helped run Bullwinkle's Used Furniture and Collectibles until retiring fully.  He enjoyed camping and fishing at any opportunity.  Richard was a longtime volunteer at Cat's Haven, a no-kill, special needs feline community.

Richard's legacy includes three daughters and three sons: Barbara Wills, her daughter, Stephanie and Michael Johnson and sons Maximus and Alex Reinhart; Richard and Doris Winkle family, Adam and Kaylee Winkle and son Chaseten, Rebecca Winkle and Kathleen Armbruster; David and Reanna Winkle family, Lane, Deverick, Desi and DJ Gunner; Melissa and Levi Yano family, Ian Birks, Fiona and Collin Yano; Marsha and Robert France family, Jason Davis; Patricia Kirkham family, Celina and Lizzy, Charles Mix; James and Cathy Winkle; Forest and Cindy Winkle family, Matthew and Mya Copper, Michelle and Grahm, Jennifer and Eric, Chad and Stacy, April and Mike, Michelle and Shawn, Stacy and Craig, Steffie and Channon, James and Samantha plus 16 grandchildren and three great grandchildren; Geneva and Mark Stephenson family, Tiffany and daughter Jemma, Chuck and Jen, son Marc.

In addition to his parents and wife, Thelma Grace, Richard was preceded in death by brother, Art and stepbrothers, Robert and Junior Johnston.

Family will receive friends Thursday, January 16, from Noon to 2 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, IN 46143, with service to follow at 2 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cat's Haven, 2603 N. College Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46205 (www.Catshaven.org).
