Robert Thomas Dortch Sr., 73 of Indianapolis passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 27, 2021. He was born to the late Ebon and Edith Dortch.
Robert was employed as a Journeyman pipefitter with the Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis and served there from November 27, 1978 until January 1, 2004. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 440. He was also a member of the Sugar Creek Lodge No. 279, F&AM as well as the Eastern Star.
Robert is survived by his wife of 51 years Janet; daughter, Carrie (Dean) Lawson; son, Robert Dortch Jr. and his pride and joys, Thomas Dortch, Johnathon Spradlin, Allen Spradlin; and one sister, Mary (Agresta) Dortch. He is preceded in death by both parents; son Roger Allen Dortch; grandson Anthony Dortch; two brothers, James and Garry Dortch; one sister, Vonna 'Bonnie' Barrett-Dortch.
Robert married the love of his life on May 16, 1969 in Indianapolis.
Robert was a proud member of the United States Navy and served in the Vietnam on the USS Ohara. He loved talking politics with Dean and watching Fox News.
Robert will be laid to rest on Friday, October 8, 2021 at 3:00 PM with full military honors at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
A Celebration of Life will follow at 4:30 pm, Friday, October 8, 2021 at the American Legion Post 252, 334 S. US Highway 31, Greenwood, IN 46142.
