Mr. Robert Carl Eichelman, Jr., Indianapolis, passed away on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Otterbein Senior Life of Franklin. He was 83. Robert was born May 25, 1938 in Springfield, Ohio, a son of the late Robert Carl and Mary Catherine (Fitzsimmons) Eichelman, Sr.
Robert earned his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and continued on to earn his Masters degree and begin doctoral work at Stanford University. He had been employed as a professor and had taught at UCLA and the University of Wisconsin, among others, before finishing his career at Albright College.
Robert loved classical music and was himself an accomplished pianist. He also enjoyed books and they became both a friend and comfort to him. He was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa fraternity and was also a veteran, serving his country in the United States Air Force, having attained the rank of Captain.
Robert is survived by his brothers, James (Penny) Eichelman and Charles (Kathy) Eichelman as well as his nieces and nephews, David (Erica) Eichelman, Lori (Jeff) Oliver, Nicholas (Katie) Eichelman and Lindsay Eichelman.
In keeping with Robert's wishes, there will be no services.
For those choosing to make a memorial contribution, the family has suggested those be offered to either Stanford University or Northwestern University.
