Mr. Robert Earl Pittman, Indianapolis, passed away on the late afternoon of Monday, October 12, 2020 at Bickford Assisted Living in Greenwood. He was 91. Bob was born May 5, 1929 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of the late Raymond and Zelma (Cox) Pittman.
Bob attended Emmerich Manual High School and was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 135. From the time he was 19 years old, Bob worked as a truck driver and had driven for Clemens Trucking in Indianapolis for many years, retiring in 1984. His love for trucking led him to drive for a few years for Tucker Freight Lines before retiring for a second time. Following that, he drove a school bus for six years for Perry Township Schools, retiring from driving for good in 1990.
Bob was a very handy man and could fix or repair most anything. He also loved gardening and was known for his tomatoes which he happily shared with friends, especially his church family. Bob was a member of the Southport Church of Christ.
He is survived by his children, Richard Pittman, Deborah Wagner, Peggy Pittman, Steve Pittman, Jeff (Roxanne) Pittman and Jim Pittman; eleven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in passing by his wife, Lillian O. Pittman in 2006; a grandson, Bryan Wagner; a son-in-law, Larry Wagner; his sisters, Mandy Jenkins, Naomi Sgroi and Leona Britton.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 pm, Friday, October 16, 2020 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, IN. Minister Alan Piner will officiate. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 am until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
For those choosing to make a memorial contribution, the family has suggested those be offered to the Alzheimer's/Dementia Association.
