Robert Allen Sowell, 67, of Indianapolis passed away April 25, 2021.  He was born July 21, 1953 in Bowling Green, Kentucky to the late James and Margaret (Wallace) Sowell, Sr.

Robert was a gentle, generous soul who loved caring for others.  He worked for more than 20 years at Gleaners Food Bank in Indianapolis, but his desire to give did not stop at work.  He always made sure that those less fortunate had what they needed, even if it was just a hot meal.  Robert loved to cook, and there are many happy memories of Sunday family dinners, where Robert was the chef.  He was fond of history and always had historical facts stored away in his head and shared as often as he could.  Robert was also a cat lover and couldn't resist taking in the neighborhood strays.  Above all, Robert was the patriarch of the family and took care of everyone and everything the best he could.  His friends and family will miss him dearly.

Robert is survived by his siblings, Molly Huth, Cindy Hamilton, and James "Tommy" (Linda) Sowell, Jr.; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Eddie Huth; and sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie Kay and Ruble "Doc" Estes.

Family will receive friends from 11:00am - 2:00pm Saturday, May 1 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, with service to follow at 2:00pm.
