From the Family :
Wife - Judy
The Lord has blessed me in many ways, but I count June 19th, 1982 as my best blessing. On this day Roger and I were united in marriage. Life brings plenty of joy, but also its share of sorrows and for 37 years Roger and I shared these times. Roger was always by my side to support me during the difficult times. Now I must face the most difficult time of my life without him, but I have been blessed to have the support of children, grandchildren, our family and friends and my faith. Roger's children, grandchildren, family, friends and faith were the hub of his life.
Roger brought so many gifts and talents to our marriage and to many others. His humor came out when you least expected it, he had a very dry wit. All our family, friends and church enjoyed the way he enthusiastically cooked and shared his wonderful meals. He loved his church and the Lord. He served God by helping in the church; he was a greeter, sang in the choir, orchestrated Grace and Glory trip events and built props for Vacation Bible School. At Bible camp, Roger became the best cook and bottle washer; the camp kids loved their cook! Another fun thing for him was cooking for the F.R.O.G. ministry at the Ronald McDonald house. He liked to call himself Chef Roger.
It is said when there is so much love, there is so much grief. I know this to be so true. My memories of Roger and our love will remain in my heart and mind each day.
You will always be the love of my life...until we meet again Darling.
Daughter - Stacy
Dad was a very intelligent, resourceful and giving man. He taught himself how to do plumbing, electrical and carpentry and built his two homes with his own hands. He helped Ray and Andrea rehab their first home, helped me with a kitchen and bathroom remodel. He was always the person I called anytime anything "exploded" as I knew he would be there and would fix it.
As many know, dad was a perfectionist, which was great when the project was done, but did have its price. I remember weekends at lumber stores where dad would inspect and hand pick each piece of lumber for the house. Him being so focused on his task, he fell through a drywall floor (I believe this happened twice). He wanted my countertop to fit perfectly snug between the walls, we broke it trying to get it in place. And the funniest one was when dad was working on Clint's water heater and tied his dog to the garage door, forgot and opened the door and had a hanging pooch for a few seconds.
Son - Raymond
When working with Dad he taught me so much on how to problem solve, build and fix things. I was always hoping it was up to his perfection but if it was not he would let me know in a helpful way and help me fix it. I learned my work ethics from him but never could work as hard or as long as he could. I just couldn't keep up with all his energy and drive to get the job done and get it done correctly.
He was always so helpful and giving. I am trying my best to pass these qualities of Dad on to my daughters.
Daughter-in-law Andrea
Papa was a great cook. I learned a lot from just watching him work his magic around the kitchen.
Getting to know him made me realize that under that tough exterior of his, he really was a kind sweet and loving man.
But one of the greatest days of my life is when Ray and I made him a Papa, and proud one at that. There was nothing in this world he wouldn't do for his granddaughters Rachael and Kennedy.
Granddaughter Rachael
He always welcomed me in the door with a "Hey Buddy!" either snacking on pretzels with mustard or graham crackers with buttercream frosting. He'd always help me with my math or history homework and my favorite part was telling him he got an answer wrong.
You would yell my name across the house and maybe I didn't hear you, or sometimes I was being stubborn, but he'd always stick up for you and would yell "Rachael, answer your grandmother!"
He looked out for everyone. The countless friends that I would have over. The ones who he'd host holidays to but didn't have to. He always made them feel welcomed.
He made every holiday special. Truly magical when you're a child. The large Christmas trees, the train he let me place under it. The elaborate Easter egg hunts and games he put together for us. The birthdays we celebrated. The meals that his two hands would prepare for his family.
And most importantly the example he set for loving Jesus. He showed it in his acts of kindness, his commitment to you and his family. He showed up every Sunday to praise, but his actions served the Lord every day.
When you're little, you think your grandparents will get to be around forever. Last night I had to say "see ya later" to my papa, my buddy, the person who gave me the most fondest childhood memories. I find peace in knowing that he is no longer in pain, he is with Jesus, and he is holding his great grand baby oh so tight for me. ❤️
Brother - Robert
Roger kept Ray's (brother) service revolver which has quite a history with our family. It has been with one of us at many important times. Roger carried it when they were saying he might not be able to see Raymond's body. You know Roger. One way or another he wasn't going to let that happen. I feel like Roger has been tormented with Raymond's death for the past 52 years. I could just feel it when I was around him. I will never be able to thank Judy enough for being so loving and supportive of him. She was truly a Godsend for him.
It is with great sorrow that I've had to say goodbye to my brother Roger. He has lost his valiant battle with Parkinson's. Leaving his wife, children and grandchildren with so many wonderful and loving memories. Roger was our rock. He guided us through so many of the toughest times and losses of our lives. He and his wife Judy protected and cared for so many family members so they could be safe and enjoy the remainder of their lives.
Until we meet again dear Brother.
Granddaughter - Kennedy
I remember how my Grandpa would help me in anyway possible including my studies for school. He was always a helping hand in a time in need and always made time for me and family. I can remember him saying "hey bud" as I and Rachael opened the door to greet us at any occasion.
Niece - Emily
Uncle Roger, I didn't get to see you often but when I did you sure did make it memorable. I will never forget the Christmas time with you guys and the times in between. I will never forget those amazing cinnamon rolls that you would make in the morning before everyone would get up. Love you Uncle Roger you will be missed.
