Ronald Gus Kistner, 84, passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Franklin United Methodist Community. The son of Karl and Geneva Kistner was born December 31, 1930 in Indianapolis. Ron graduated from Manual High School. Attended Butler University for one year and transferred to the Chicago Art Institute graduating as a commercial artist. Ron was a Combat Veteran in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He was employed by Standard Grocery Company for 25 years as Advertising manager and finished his career as advertising manager for several other companies until his retirement.
His hobbies were golfing, photography and traveling. Ron was a member of the Greenwood Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite Cathedral. He was an active member of the Greenwood Presbyterian Church and Korean Veteran Association. He enjoyed watching professional basketball, football and golf. Ron was a loving and entertaining husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Rita, of 33 years; daughter, Barbara Lynn Ooley; son, Ronald Steve Kistner (Anne); stepdaughter, Lee Harrison (Andy); stepson, Russell Gene Deer (Debbie); 8 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 15th with one hour visitation prior to the service at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Johnson County Humane Society or the Greenwood Presbyterian Church.
