Ronald Stephen Summers
August 10, 1943 – April 25, 2026
Ronald Stephen Summers, 82, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday morning, April 25, 2026, after battling with congestive heart failure, kidney disease and diabetes for many years. During his last month of his life, Ron chose to enter hospice care at home, surrounded by the people and pets he loved.
Ron was born in “Small Town Indiana,” Alexandria, Indiana, to Lyle and Mary Summers. He loved his hometown and cherished the lifelong friendships he made there. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, Ron went on to build a career in accounting, later earning his CPA certification. Over the years, he worked for several employers, including Hurdman Cranston, Lindner Dairy Center, Blue & White Service, and Amtrak, where he later retired.
Ron had a sharp mind and a natural gift for solving problems. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles, cryptoquips and word jumbles, and he loved music and theater. He had a special talent for untangling complicated problems and finding solutions. When faced with a challenge, you could almost see the wheels turning in his mind. He was also a master at creating elaborate spreadsheets for any and all occasions, earning him the beloved nickname “Mr. Spreadsheet.”
Above all, Ron loved his family and his pups. He treasured any time he could spend with them and was happiest surrounded by those he loved.
Ron is survived by his wife of 42 years, Denise Summers; his children, Traci Hession (Andrew), Wendy Lyon, Alex Rippin (Michael), and Adam Summers (Haley); his grandchildren, Drew Hession (Aryn), Mitch Hession (Danielle), Cole Hession (Rachael), Will Hession (Lacey), Rachael Wilson (Chris), Macy Lyon and Noah Lyon, Ruby Rippin, Josie Summers, Alden Summers, Anson Summers and Atlas Summers; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Jeff Summers (Vicky); his sister-in-law, Sherry Hubert; brother-in-law, Chuck Babbs (Kathy); and devoted four-legged companions, Buddy Love, Minnie Pearl and Ginger Ann.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Mary Summers, and his son, Scott Summers.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m.
