Ronald Dean Witt, 74, of Greenwood, Indiana passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 28, 2021. He is survived by his loving wife, Valerie, of 34 years.
Ron was born in Indianapolis to the late Clyde and Beulah (Arthur) Witt. He grew up in Bargersville, Indiana. Known to many of his family and friends as "Ronnie", he attended and graduated from Center Grove High School in 1965 and was active in many sports and clubs including, football, track, Intramural sports, National Honor Society, Thespian and Drama Clubs, Letterman's Club, Hi-Y, Spanish, Science and clubs.
After high school, Ron attended Purdue University, graduating in 1969 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management. He was active in the Purdue Reamer Club that promoted school spirit. Immediately following his college graduation, Ron was drafted into the United States Army receiving an Honorable Discharge.
After leaving the Army, he began working at Farm Bureau Insurance in Indianapolis and led a successful career for 36 years in the Claims Division with many accomplishments. During his career, he obtained several insurance designations, but was most proud of his accomplishment of CPCU, Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation in 1986.
In 1982 he met his wife, Valerie, while coaching women's softball and they were united in marriage in 1986.
Ron retired in 2007 and began his next career, golf. Ron loved playing golf and had many great memories of games and tournaments with some of his closest friends (Mike, Ron, Glenn, and others) at his favorite golf course, Martinsville Country Club. His love of golf took him and Valerie to Amelia Island, Florida, where they lived for 9 years. He treasured his friendships with his Florida golf Buddies, "The River Rats". After 9 wonderful years in Florida, it was time to be with family and friends so the moving van brought them back "home" to Indiana in 2020.
Ron's youth gave him the opportunity to spend summers helping his father build homes, which taught him the skills to eventually build his own home and master almost any home project. Besides golf, he enjoyed home projects, woodworking, sports and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of First Christian Church in Bargersville, where he was currently attending.
Ron loved his family and is survived by his brother, Richard (Linda) Witt; sister, Cheryl (Richard) Collins; two brothers-in-law, Greg (Brooke) and Jeremy (Emily) Blackman. He has multiple nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; cousins; and many cherished high school, college and close friends, including a special cousin, Bill Garner.
Ron's great sense of humor always made his wife, family and friends laugh at his quick "witt". He was loved greatly and will be sorely missed.
