Mrs. Rose D. Rice, Indianapolis, passed away on the late afternoon of Saturday, September 17, 2022. She was 82. Rose was born May 24, 1940 in Wolfe County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Clarence M. and Virginia Olive (Brewer) Shortt.
Rose attended Center Grove High School and was a member of the graduating Class of 1958. She volunteered as a delivery person with Meals on Wheels for several years and had also done hair at her home for her friends. She enjoyed doing water aerobics at Ladies Only and also was a fan of IU basketball and the Indianapolis Colts. Later in life, she enjoyed watching golf on television and in her own words "it helped put her to sleep". She looked forward to her weekly lunches with her group of friends and much enjoyed their friendship. Rose deeply loved her family especially her grandchildren and taking trips visiting her home on Lake Cumberland.
Rose was a member of the Southport Heights Christian Church.
Rose is survived by her daughter, Kelley Schnepp; her grandchildren, Kyle Schnepp and Kendall Schnepp; her great-granddaughter Alyssa Rose Osborne; her siblings, Patty (John) Shufflebarger, Bob Shortt (Dan Smith), Sharon (Chuck) Amick and Susan (Peter) Reporto; several nieces and nephews as well as her lifelong friends, Marilyn Hendricks and Pat Hulett.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in passing by her husband, Ronald Eugene Rice; a sister, Shirley (Jack) Reichenbacker and her son-in-law, Guy Schnepp.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Monday, September 26, 2022 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.
For those choosing to make a memorial contribution, the family has suggested those be offered to either the Alzheimer's Foundation or Meals on Wheels.
