IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roseann Porter
Gentry
July 20, 1937 – February 19, 2026
Roseann (Porter) Gentry, 88, of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 19, 2026. Born Teresa Roseann Porter in Indianapolis on July 20, 1937, Roseann lived a life rooted in the simple joys of faith, family, and the Indiana countryside. She trusted in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior early on and this, more than anything else, shaped her life and purpose.
A 1956 graduate of Union High School, Roseann went on to marry her beloved husband of 51 years, Wallace R. Gentry, on November 30, 1958. Together, they built a life centered on faith, hard work, and family devotion. For many years, Roseann worked as a house cleaner, both as a way of providing for her family and of serving others. She was an engaged and active member for many years of Emmanuel Baptist Church and Northern Park Baptist Church.
Roseann was happiest when surrounded by the things she loved, like the warmth of her home, the adventure of a long road trip, and the beauty of horses. Her family will forever cherish the memory of her home-cooked meals and the delicious baked goods she lovingly prepared. She often spoke fondly of her childhood on the family farm in Trafalgar, Indiana, sharing stories that kept her heritage alive for her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader and especially loved the detective mysteries of Agatha Christie. Most of all, she will be remembered for her sweet and gentle spirit and her quiet faith in Jesus.
She is survived by her three sons: J.D. Gentry, Jerry (Cathy) Gentry, and Lance (Leigh Ann) Gentry; her nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and her brother, Earl (Judy) Porter. Roseann was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace; her parents, Curtis and Marcella Porter; her brother, Phil Porter; and her daughter-in-law, Mischelle Gentry.
A celebration of Roseann's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Greenwood. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until the hour of service at the funeral home.
