Mrs. Ruth Johnson, 89, of Indianapolis and formerly of Danville, Illinois, was a wonderful homemaker and seamstress who left this world peacefully on Sunday, June 10, 2012, her favorite day of the week. She truly loved the Lord. Her family will forever remember her gentle spirit, humility, and the love she had for her family.
She was born on April 1, 1923, in Carlyle, Illinois. Surviving are a brother, Lawrence Seal, and a sister, Bess Hummer, who both reside in Danville, Illinois. Brothers William and Russell Seal preceded her in death, as well as both parents, Lillian and Frederick Seal (Mr. Seal lovingly adopted all five children and was a beloved father. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Johnson of Indianapolis.
Ruth was a member of Royal Neighbors of America and the Odd Fellow Rebecca Lodge #520.
Ruth is survived by her three children: Carol Arnett of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Frederick Chadwell of Greenwood, Indiana and Tammie Chadwell of Indianapolis, Indiana, as well as three step children, Larry Johnson and Billy Johnson of Indianapolis, Indiana and Janet Kennedy of Arizona. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Our special thanks go to Vista Hospice Care as well as all the other caregivers the past eight months. We are especially grateful to our sister, Tammie Chadwell, who lived with her and cared for her during the past several months due to her declining health.
You are invited to share memories and/or condolences with the family with visitation on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, Indiana. Pastor Jeff Alexander will conduct a funeral service on Thursday, June 14, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service.
