Mrs. Sara Ann Clayton, age 91, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, just days before her 92nd birthday. She was born on April 1, 1934. Sara was born April 1, 1934 in Beech Grove, Indiana, a daughter of the late Platte and Mildred (Frantz) Rivers.
Sara was a woman of deep faith and was a member at GracePoint Church in Whiteland. She loved the Lord wholeheartedly and lived her life as a reflection of that devotion. She had a vibrant and welcoming spirit, never meeting a stranger, and was known by many as a true social butterfly. Generous to a fault, Sara gave freely of herself and her time, all while living a modest and frugal life.
In her younger years she found great joy in gardening, nurturing both flowers and friendships with equal care. Sara shared her beautiful voice as a soloist and even had the honor of singing on the radio. Her love for music remained a cherished part of her life.
Sara was a proud graduate of Beech Grove High School, Class of 1952, where she was active as a cheerleader and participated in school plays. She later built a successful career in real estate, earning her broker’s license and gaining the respect of colleagues and clients alike.
She was also a devoted member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she formed lasting friendships and served her community.
Above all, Sara loved her family deeply and unconditionally. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose legacy of love will live on through those she leaves behind.
Sara was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Clayton, her parents, Platte and Mildred Rivers and her brothers, John and Ned Rivers.
She is survived by her children, Cindy (Glen) DeLong and Brent (Jan) Stephenson; her grandchildren, Sara (Clint) Ross, Ashley (Aaron) Radtke, Zach (Danielle) DeLong, Abbey (Josh) Timm, Jake (Sarah) DeLong, and Brittany (Jake) Vandivier; along with seven great-grandchildren and one more on the way.
Sara’s life was a testament to faith, kindness, and love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 pm, Friday, April 3, 2026 at GracePoint Church, 330 W. Whiteland Road, Whiteland, IN 46184. The family will receive friends from 10:30 am until the time of service Friday at the church. She will be entombed beside her husband at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
For those choosing to make a memorial contribution, the family has suggested those be offered to GracePoint Church.
