Mrs. Sarah Sue Garner, Indianapolis, passed away on the early morning of Thursday, March 30, 2023. She was 89. Sarah was born August 15, 1933 in Bloomington, Indiana, a daughter of the late Oscar L. and Darval C. (Eads) Owings.
Sarah attended and graduated from Bloomington High School. She had been employed in the Marion County Clerk's Office and retired in 2008 after 25 years of service. She was a very social lady and loved her job with the Clerk's office where she had worked in the Marriage License area. She enjoyed meeting the people who applied for a license and had taken courses in Spanish to enable her to communicate with everyone who came into the office.
Sarah loved politics and had been active in it for over 25 years. In keeping with her love of politics, she served for many years as a precinct committeeman, a position she enjoyed to the fullest.
Sarah also enjoyed shopping and was known to be a very well-dressed lady. She loved animals, especially her black cat, Sissy. Sarah was a member of the Bloomington VFW Post.
Sarah is survived by her daughter, Kristi (Richard) Wyatt; her grandchildren, Aaron Cline, Cathryn (Jeremy) Boyer and Brandon Wyatt; her great-grandchildren, Eli, Noah, Isiah, Hayes and Maeve as well as her nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in passing by her siblings, Burtal Owings, Boyd Owings, Beulah Shields, Bernice Owings and Joseph Owings.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
