IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sarah Frances
Helms
August 14, 1930 – September 8, 2022
Mrs. Sarah Frances Helms, Greenwood, passed away on the early morning of Thursday, September 8, 2022. She was 92. Sarah was born August 14, 1930 in Bloomington, Indiana, a daughter of the late William and Janie (Newton) Childers.
Sarah attended Bloomington schools and came to Indianapolis from Worth, Illinois with her husband and young family in 1962. She had been employed with RCA Corporation in both Bloomington and Indianapolis as a line inspector and following her time at RCA, she worked for Union Carbide building electrical boxes.
Sarah had been a faithful member of Calvary Tabernacle for over 60 years. She also was a lover of nature and got much pleasure watching the birds and squirrels play. She also enjoyed growing plants and flowers and caring for them and could take a dying plant, revive it, and cause it to flourish again. She loved people. She was a nurturer and had a servant's heart and cared for others oftentimes at her own expense. She was a creative and artistic lady and was an excellent cook and baker, creating delicious meals and goodies from scratch which earned her the nickname, 'Sara Lee'. In her leisure time, Sarah enjoyed listening to Gospel music, especially that of the Gaithers.
Sarah is survived by her children, Rita (Timothy) Pruitt and Vicki (David) Imes; her grandchildren, Kimberly (James) Gibbs, Nathan Pruitt and Aaron (Tiffani) Imes; her great-grandchildren, Brooke, Emalin, Aiden and Isabella; her half-brother, Raymond (Lou) Childers as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in passing by her former husband, Homer Lewis Helms, an infant son as well as her siblings, Mary McConnell, Zella Hunter, Goldie Childers, Lucille Childers and Mable Childers.
