IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shannon Nicole
Smith Calloway
October 29, 1979 – November 20, 2025
Shannon Nicole Smith Calloway, 46, of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away surrounded by loved ones, on November 20, 2025, at Westover Hills Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.
Shannon was born on October 29, 1979, in Franklin, Indiana, to Beverly Joyce (Crockett) Layman and Charles Lee Smith. She graduated from Whiteland Community High School in 1998 and went on to dedicate more than 20 years of her life to working in the medical field as a medical assistant and a CPR instructor. Patient care was her calling. She had a natural gift for compassion and advocating fiercely for those in her care. Her kindness, empathy, and unwavering commitment left a lasting impact on countless patients and coworkers throughout her career.
As the oldest of eight siblings, Shannon was the one who looked after everyone else, offering support, guidance, and love without hesitation. Family meant everything to her, and she cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, siblings, and extended family.
Shannon was a proud daughter of a veteran and deeply respected her father's military service, which fostered her lifelong affinity for veteran outreach. Outside of work, she found joy in life's simple and meaningful pleasures. She loved country music, traveling, and exploring new places, and she was a certified scuba diver who embraced adventure whenever she could. At home, she was a wonderful cook who loved baking, experimenting with new recipes, and sharing meals with those she loved.
Shannon will be remembered for her infectious laugh, her generous spirit, and the way she made people feel seen and cared for. Her presence filled a room, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her mother, Beverly Crockett Layman; her stepmother, Anne Smith; her three children, Kallie (Wilkins) Ramos, Audrie Wilkins, and Dakota Calloway; her grandchildren, Aria and Atticus Ramos (Kallie); and her siblings, Shane Smith, Kip Layman, Katie Layman, Casey Layman, Cody Layman, Makaleigh Layman, Brooke Scalf and step-siblings Todd Schaefer and Christina Zechiel.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Lee Smith, and her stepfather, Clifton Layman.
A time of gathering and celebration of life will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum on Saturday, January 10th, at 12:00 p.m., followed by a celebration of life at her Aunt Linda's home.
