Sherman Leo Hicks, Spencer, IN, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2026. He was 69 years old. Sherman was born in Jefferson County, Kentucky to his parents Leo and Willodean Hicks. Sherman married his wife, Debora (Melvin) and they shared 50 years of love and companionship together.

Sherman learned carpentry skills from his father and grew up to become a talented carpenter as an adult. He was able to support and provide for his family through his carpentry. Sherman was a Christian and usually practiced his faith privately. Sherman enjoyed going fishing and trying his luck at the casino. He also enjoyed woodworking in his spare time and loved to gift his original creations to friends and family. Sherman enjoyed listening to music, especially old gospel and country music. He had an onery personality and a distinct sense of humor that carried him through life. He will be remembered for his strong-willed nature and hardworking spirit. Sherman will be dearly missed and forever cherished by those he leaves behind.

Sherman is survived by his wife, Debora Hicks; his children, Starlet (Christopher Shaffer) Hicks, Sherry (Christian) Faust, and Jason (Lesli) Hicks; his grandchildren, Tyann Forler, Austin Shaffer, Aaron Shaffer, Destiny Faust, Isaiah (Shelby) Faust, Kaitlyn Faust, Melonie Faust, Genevah (Kevin) Birge, Elias Hicks, and Gavin Hicks; his 7 great grandchildren; his siblings, Sue Davis, Robin Phillips, Wayne Hicks, Georgia Jennings, and Tommy Hicks; his several nieces and nephews.

Sherman is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Carolyn, Darlene, and Doris; his beloved cats, Pepper and Big Foot.

A visitation for Sherman will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. There will be another time of visitation on Wednesday, April 8 2026, from 10:00 am until the time of service. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 11:00 am. Sherman will be laid to rest at a later date.
