Stephen Wayne Lutes, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on the afternoon of Saturday, July 18, 2026. He was 78 years old. Stephen was born in Beech Grove, IN to his parents, Lebert Franklin and Margaret Lutes. He graduated from Southport High School. Stephen answered the call of this nation by enlisting into the United States Army, and after his period of faithful service was honorably discharged.

Stephen worked as a heavy equipment operator for McGrew Excavating and retired in 2008 after 28 years of service. Stephen enjoyed antique tractors, often going to tractor shows. He also spent his time creating stained glass, admiring Lionell train sets, and developing his wood working skills. He will be remembered for his consistent nature and level headedness. Stephen will be dearly missed by those he leaves behind.

Stephen is survived by brother, James Lutes; his niece and nephew, Jennifer Anne Lutes, and Andrew James Lutes.

A graveside service will be held for Stephen at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens on Thursday, July 23, 2026. The family will meet at the funeral home at 2:15 pm and will process out to the grave together at 2:30 pm.
