Steven Michael 'Steve' Jenkins, Indianapolis, passed away on the early morning of August 21, 2022. He was 80 years old. Steve was born in Beech Grove, Indiana to his parents, Robert R. Jenkins and Dorothy N. (Winer) Hodge. Steve attended Emmerich Manual High School and had spent most of his working career as a ship builder for the company Todd Shipyard in Long Beach, California and retired in 2000 after 25 years of service.
Steve was a member of the Northern Park Baptist Church in Greenwood for the past 13 years where he earned the nickname, "Gum Man" by passing out Juicy Fruit gum to the children. Steve was an active member of the ministry and developed many wonderful friendships while being a part of the congregation. Steve also enjoyed fishing with his late brother in law, Bill Thornburg, and tinkering in the garage. He enjoyed listening to southern gospel music and absolutely loved his family. He was a wonderful person and the memories of him will be cherished by those he leaves behind.
Steve is survived by his wife, Barbara Anne Jenkins; his children, Pamela G. Montes, Steven Michael Jenkins Jr., Mark A. Jenkins, William D. Jenkins; his step children, Jenny (Mike) Coop and Jeff (Jessie) Shackelford; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; siblings, Vickie Thornburg, Pamela Cliburn, Theresa Murphy and Terri Oswalt; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Steve is preceded in death by his first wife, Donna Joe Jenkins; his siblings, Ronald D. 'Chuck' Jenkins, Jacqueline Jill Collins, and Jerri Lynn White.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Friday, August 26, 2022 at Northern Park Baptist Church, 598 N. Meridian Street, Greenwood IN, with Pastor Allen Pierce officiating. He will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens following the services.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood.
