Teresa K. Coverstone-Howe of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away stubbornly but peacefully on October 28, 2026, at the age of 74. Teresa was lovingly referred to as Mom, Mammy, Aunt T, Lucy, and Momma Howe—all names she treasured.
In high school, Terry was often found cruising around Southport or hanging out at the Sherwood Club with her best friend, Vickie Lynn (Steffan) Moore. These friends were rarely found apart and earned the nicknames “Lucy & Ethel.” Following high school, the pair lived across the street from each other and raised their families together. They spent weekends at the river in Madison, Indiana, watched true-crime shows, and always had a good story to tell.
After high school, Teresa met the love of her life, Louis Wilford “Butch” Howe, Jr., and they married on December 2, 1972. Butch and Terry were each other’s best friends, partners in life, and devoted parents. They supported their children’s activities, from gymnastics to wrestling, as well as their involvement in the local music scene at the Smith Valley Community Center. With their busy schedules, they looked forward to heading to the river on weekends, where they spent time with family and friends boating, grilling on the deck, and telling stories around the fire. Terry’s love for Butch transcended his death on December 2, 2004.
Butch and Terry welcomed two children of their own: Eric Howe (Erin) and Katie Howe. Terry was a devoted grandmother to Vincent and Finian Howe and L.J. and Lexie Brennan. She enjoyed having sleepovers with the grandkids, watching their activities, and spoiling them as often as possible.
Terry was the big sister to Marty Jo O’Hern (Chris). Their close relationship extended to her nieces—Brittany Tinkler, Brooke Curry, and Brynna Brashear—whom she adored, as well as their children, who saw Terry as another grandmother. Terry was also dearly loved by all of her brothers- and sisters-in-law and the many nieces and nephews on the Howe side of the family.
The door was always open at “Momma Howe’s,” and the house was rarely empty. From her extended family to her children’s neighborhood friends and the infamous “Pacer’s Parties,” everyone was always welcome, and the home was always full.
Terry was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Wilford “Butch” Howe, Jr.; her parents, Lloyd and LaVerne Coverstone; her parents-in-law, Louis and Sally Howe; her brother, Mike Coverstone; her brother-in-law, Michael Howe and niece Amanda Rhoads.
A celebration of life will be held in the chapel at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. The family asks that everyone in attendance wear blue and gold or Pacers gear to celebrate Terry’s love and devotion to Pacers basketball.
