Mrs. Thelma Rose Callahan, Greenwood, went Home to be with the Lord on the late evening of Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Life Journey in Avon. She was 87. Thelma was born April 21, 1933 in Indianapolis, Indiana a daughter of the late Carl and Pearl (Southerland) Merrick.
Thelma attended Southport High School and was a member of the graduating Class of 1950. She had been employed at Glass Container for 15 years as the Executive Secretary. She then worked as a secretary for One Mission Society (OMS) for five years before retiring.
She was a member of the Meridian Church of God where she was a faithful servant for 82 years. While there, she had served as a Sunday School teacher, sang in the choir and was heavily involved in missions, having taken mission trips to foreign countries helping to spread the Gospel. She has also sung in a group from church that traveled to other churches. She more recently had attended Southland Community Church in Greenwood. Thelma enjoyed cooking and was an excellent cook. She was the epitome of a good wife to her husband and mother to her children. She was a Godly woman and through her life showed the love of Christ to others.
Thelma is survived by her son, Daniel Callahan; her grandson, Daniel Callahan, Jr., her brothers, Carl (Carol) Merrick and Tom (Marsha) Merrick; her sister, Donna Merrick as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in passing by her husband, Earnest C. Callahan, her daughter, Brenda Callahan and two sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Thursday, February 4, 2021 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood. Pastor Todd Wymer, Rev. Kerry Huffman and Rev. Ron Crump will officiate. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.

In keeping with the Governor's mandate, attendance will be limited to 25 people. We respectfully ask that if you are showing any symptoms of illness, please do not attend.
