Mrs. Thelma Jean Woodring, Greenwood, passed away on the evening of Tuesday, September 7, 2021. She was 98. Thelma was born August 17, 1923, in Hamilton County, Indiana, a daughter of the late Edwin Brenton and Mable (Gaines) Cory.
Thelma was a graduate of Marion High School in Marion, Indiana, a graduate of Marian College in Indianapolis and she earned her master's degree form Ball State University in Muncie. She was a teacher at Greenwood Schools and then was a second grade teacher at Perry Meridian Schools and retired in 1989 after 20 years of service.
Thelma enjoyed crocheting and spending her leisure time boating on Lake Shafer. She was an excellent cook and loved her family dearly especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was of the Wesleyan Methodist faith.
Thelma is survived by her children, Deidra Cress, Steve Woodring and David Woodring; six grandchildren as well as several great and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in passing by her husband of 56 years, Verl B. Woodring in 1997 and two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm, Friday, September 17, 2021 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, with burial following at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until the time of service.
