Theodore Franklin McElyea, 72 of Bargersville, IN passed away Dec. 6, 2011. He was born October 23, 1939 in Effingham, IL the son of the late, Andrew Franklin and Margaret Clair (Schwarz) McElyea. He also was preceded in death by a son, John William McElyea. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann (Brumagen) McElyea; children, Kevin M. (Amelia)McElyea, Daniel P. (Sherri) McElyea, Debbie A. (McElyea)Purvis, Sean P.(Kathy) McElyea; step children, Debra (Richard) Yanasak, Sherri Hume and Dean Miller; Grandchildren, Michael,Andrew,Tabitha, Kyle,Scott,Nathan,Megan; step grandchildren, Benjamin Showalter, Shawn Yanasak, Keith Yanasak, Joshua Hume and Erika Wise; four great grandchildren. Theodore was a diesel mechanic for 18 years with International Harvester, also he was an 18 year member of the UAW and a union steward and he worked at Sears Automotive. He served 22 years as Deputy and retired from the Johnson County Sheriff''s Department. He was a United States Navy veteran AMS 2nd class. Theodore was a graduate of the Sacred Heart High School, the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. He also was a 54 year member of the Boy Scouts of America, Past Founder of the Explorer Post under Sheriff Miller in 1989 and Past Advisor and Continueing member of the Johnson County Sheriff''s Department Explorer Post #841, a Master Mason Union Village Lodge #545, a 32nd degree Mason Scottish Rite, Knights of Saint Andrew, York Rite, Order of the Eastern Star and the Shrine. He was twice awarded the William H. Spurgeon Award, was a member of the American Legion Post #500, the NRA Lifetime member and the North American Fishing Club. Visitation will be Sunday (5-11-2011) from 6 to 9pm in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens and Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Rd. 135, Greenwood, IN. Funeral services will be Monday 11:30am (5-12-2011) in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America Cross Roads of America Council in care of Troop #615or the Explorer Post # 841 or to St. Andrew''s Anglican Parish, Franklin, IN
