Obituary

Thomas MacKean, age 94, passed away on February 16th, 2018, at home surrounded by family.  He was born in Douglas, Scotland on February 17th, 1923, to his late parents Alexander and Marion (Colthart) MacKean.  At the tender age of four, he emigrated from Scotland with his parents and younger brother John MacKean who preceded him in death.   While in the U.S., Tom's youngest brother, who also preceded him in death, Alexander MacKean, was born.
Tom grew up in Pennsylvania and New York and joined the United States Army Air Corps in May of 1941 to protect the country during World War II.  He was stationed in Florida, Alabama, and Alaska during his years serving faithfully as a Guard Patrolman and Army Air Force Radio Mechanic.
In 1946, shortly after his discharge from active duty, Tom met his bride to be Dorothy Lee Smith.  They married April 3, 1948.  A few short years later in 1951, they were blessed with twin girls, Debra Lee (MacKean) McDonald and Denise Ann MacKean.  They lived in Beech Grove, Indiana for many years before moving to Clearwater, Florida.
Tom spent his civilian career with the Department of Defense's Naval Avionics division. He retired as a Quality Assurance Specialist in 1979 and returned to Indiana a few years later to build a home and spend time with his grandson Thomas "T.R." Robert Yelton.  In 1985, his granddaughter Adrien Lee McDonald was born.  He was also blessed to have a relationship with his T.R.'s wife, Kerri Ann Davis, and great grandchildren Isla Davis Yelton and Dodge Davis Yelton.
Tom remained in Indiana until his passing and will be remembered as a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who passed along many values to his family.  He was a very intelligent, hard worker who was able to fix and build anything. An avid pilot, he will also be remembered for his love of aviation. While he has continued his journey with the Lord, he will never be forgotten.
