Obituary

Timothy Scott Nance, 57, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at his home on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Timothy was born May 1, 1967, in Indianapolis, Indiana, and was the eldest son of Marvin and Eydie (Vivian) Nance, Jr.

Tim grew up in a home filled with love and strong family values, attending Suburban Baptist School, where he was a proud member of the Class of 1985. His passion for learning led him to Indiana University–Indianapolis, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1990.

Tim dedicated his life to 21 years in education, spending 19 years as a devoted fourth-grade teacher at Homecroft Elementary School. He was deeply committed to his students, fostering a love of learning in the classroom and making a lasting impact on countless young lives. His patience, kindness, and ability to connect with children made him a beloved teacher and mentor.

Beyond his career, Tim's greatest joy and passion in life was his sons and family and they held a special place in his heart. Tim's passions extended far beyond the classroom. He was an avid reader, a devoted Notre Dame football fan, and a true music enthusiast. He found joy in the companionship of his many pets and valued the friendships he cultivated throughout his life. Whether cheering on his favorite team, playing music, or sharing laughter with loved ones, Tim embraced life with warmth and enthusiasm. His kindness, humor, and unwavering dedication to those he loved will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

He is survived by his sons, Dylan Nance and Matthew Nance; his parents, Marvin and Eydie Nance, Jr.; his brother, Casey (Amy) Nance; his uncles and aunts, Rebecca Nance, Roy and Helen Richards, Faye Myers, Mick and Myrtle Spencer, and William Vivian; his cousins, Jeff Myers, Marjorie Osborne, Amy Hamilton, Tina Montgomery, Gina Gzibovskis, and many other extended family members.

Tim was preceded in passing by his paternal grandparents, Marvin and Marie Nance, Sr.; his maternal grandparents, William and Florene Vivian; his aunts and uncles, Mike Nance, Fred and Ann Vivian, Alene and Glenn McClain and Roy Myers, his cousin, June East along with other extended family.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Greenwood, with inurnment at the Benjamin Franklin Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens at a later date.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the time of service at the funeral home.
