Valerie Ann Robinson Freeman, P.T., C.L.T., L.M.T., Age 59, Greenwood, IN Born September 21, 1952, in Crawfordsville, Indiana, she was the daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Ann (Weliver) Robinson. An only child, she always considered herself blessed to have three children of her own.
Physical Therapy was her occupation and passion. Her lifelong career path was decided while in middle school while volunteering to assist with the therapy of a child with Cerebral Palsy. This experience convinced her to devote her life to caring for, treating, and providing comfort to those in pain. She practiced Physical Therapy at Clay County Hospital (Brazil, IN), Dunn Memorial Hospital (Bedford, IN), Community South Hospital (Indianapolis, IN), NovaCare, Manor Care, and finally, Columbus Regional Hospital (Columbus, IN).
Valerie graduated from Crawfordsville High School (Crawfordsville, IN). She attended Indiana University (Bloomington, IN) for her pre-physical therapy credits, and graduated with a B.S. in Physical Therapy from the University of Illinois (Chicago, IL). She also earned her Massage Therapy degree from Harrison College (Indianapolis, IN), and was also an accredited Lymphatic Therapist from the Academy of Lymphatic Studies (Florida).
During her youth, Valerie resided with her family in Crawfordsville, IN; LaSalle-Peru, IL, and Milwaukee, WI. Her children graduated from Plainfield High School (Plainfield, IN). While residing in Plainfield, she was very active in school functions and an avid supporter of the Plainfield music program.
From the age of 4 until she recently became ill, Valerie was always passionate about dancing. She explored all types of dance, including ballet, tap, belly dancing and ballroom. She danced in the Nutcracker while at Indiana University. She and her husband, Randy, met at Arthur Murray Dance Studios. They were selected to dance on stage during two tours of Dancing with the Stars in Indianapolis.
She is survived by her husband, Randall Freeman of Greenwood, IN; three children, Aaron Steele of Indianapolis, Amanda Steele, D.O. of Coralville, IA, and Sarah Ann Steele of Los Angeles, CA; two step-children, Adam Freeman and Jessica Freeman-West; step-grandson, Brenden West; and her parents, Richard and Elizabeth Robinson of Bloomington.
Visitation will be on Saturday, November 5, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Rd. 135, Greenwood. The funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m. Private burial will take place on a later date in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
