February 16, 1935 – December 19, 2025
Mrs. Valerie Jean Gray, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Friday, December 19, 2025. She was 90 years old.
Valerie was born on February 16, 1935, in Bedford, Indiana, a daughter of the late Howard and Mildred Louise (Kern) Flynn. She attended Thomas Carr Howe High School and was a proud member of the graduating class of 1953.
Valerie devoted 30 years of faithful service to Morris Plan as a data entry clerk and retired in 1983, earning the respect of coworkers and friends alike. She was a member of both the Moose Lodge in Greenwood and the American Legion in Franklin, where she enjoyed fellowship and community involvement.
In her leisure time, Valerie found joy in dancing, bowling, roller skating, reading, and journaling. She especially loved taking walks and listening to music, with a fondness for the classic country sounds of Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard. A thoughtful and caring woman, Valerie was known for sending cards to loved ones and supporting numerous charitable causes. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family, particularly enjoying games of Tripoly with them.
Valerie is survived by her loving children, Keith (Lisa) Swegman and Sherri (Larry) Lindeman; her cherished grandchildren, Stephen, Jessica and David; and her beloved great-grandchild, Columbia. She is also survived by her siblings, Gary (Doris) Flynn, Diana (David) Moore, Sue Parker Flynn, Pam Kwick, Kenny (Debbie) Flynn, Terry Flynn and Tom (Belkin) Flynn, along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Valerie was preceded in death by her brother, Howard Flynn, Jr.
